China pledges further cooperation in fighting IPR crimes

September 4, 2007
China and many other countries and world organizations signed a joint document last month, vowing to intensify cooperation and communication over international law enforcement on IP protection and fighting IPR crimes.

The Shenzhen Declaration, signed by China, the U.S., the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the International Criminal Police Organization (TERPOL) on July 25 at the closing ceremony of the 2007 China IPR Criminal Law Protection Forum,

It calls on judicial and law enforcement organs, relative governmental departments and enterprises to strengthen IPR protection through criminal laws under the principle of "face challenge with cooperation and advance development by protection".

The document also calls for precision crackdown and comprehensive fighting efforts to destroy production, storage and transportation, export and import, and sale, as well as the whole trans-national criminal networks, and the establishment of a cooperative pattern of striking transnational or trans-regional IPR crimes.

The joint declaration also encourages the establishment of a mechanism allowing regular and expedite information exchanges and communications between law enforcement organs and domestic and overseas companies.
