2008 China Copyright Annual Conference Held in Beijing

Sponsored by the China Copyright Association, the 2008 China Copyright Annual Conference was held in Beijing on December 5-6. Themed “copyright protection and industry development under Internet environment”, the event was aimed at bringing together related departments, companies and scholars to discuss important questions in China’s copyright protection.

Mr. Yan Xiaohong, vice director of the General Administration of Press and Publication and National Copyright Administration, stressed in his speech a need to enhance public awareness and law enforcement; regarding the Internet, basic rules of society must be followed, and licenses must be obtained before dissemination; protection of online copyright aims at promoting, instead of suppressing, the Internet industry.

Also for the first time, the conference selected and awarded influential companies and individuals from China’s copyright industry.

After the opening ceremony, group discussions were held. Topics included, “copyright protection under the Internet environment”, “copyright enterprise development” and “copyright protection of Chinese newspapers”.
